The film is about Danny Maccabee (Adam Sandler) a successful plastic surgeon in Los Angeles who convices his loyal assistant Katherine Murphy (Jennifer Aniston) to pretend as his soon-to-be-divorced wife in order to cover up a careless lie he told to his much-younger girlfriend.
